Childhood Memories

Childhood memories. Have you ever reflected back to your childhood experiences with a sense of wonder, appreciating that you of the opportunity to do the things you remember? These things shape our lives, sometimes in minor ways, sometimes in major ones. These are the memories that one sits back on the deck on a balmy summer’s evening and remembers, for no reason at all, other than they popped into one’s consciousness again in a time of contemplation and reminiscence, after what seems like a millennium of life, and the memory gives one a smile, with deep contentment and joy in one’s heart.

Some of my fondest memories are of my visits to my grandparents’ farms as a child and being able to explore that rustic way of life, which was so much different to mine at my home in town.

I sometimes look at my children, and maybe you do yours, or your grandchildren, with a sense of regret that the world moves on so much. our experiences are no longer available to our children in general. The connection with the earth and the order of life distorted in our technological and information ages. It saddens me at times. This is such a beautiful world and the wonders of nature need to be cherished and embraced for our children.

That is why these memories are so precious. Their existence needs sharing with family and friends and, if one dares, with the world. I suppose that is the reason for memoirs and biographies, to ensure the world remembers the joys of childhood and the formative experiences that those joys gave us, when our minds focused on a sense of natural discovery and awe.

I hope this short message encourages you to sit back and contemplate some of your childhood experiences for a moment.
